I'm Jackson. I bought a Teching turbofan engine model DM135 a few months ago. It took me several days to assemble it last week, so I couldn't help but share my experience with Stirlingkit. Mona from Stirlingkit invited me to write a real experience. That's what you see today.
Let me briefly introduce myself to you. I am a retired aviation engineer. For more than 30 years of my career, I have been with aircraft engines. Turbofans, turbojets, turboshafts, these complex mechanical structures are not only my job, but also my lifelong love. After retirement, when this F-35 turbofan engine model came into my sight, I knew I couldn't resist its appeal. This time, assembling an all-metal F35 turbofan engine model gave me a completely different experience. I have assembled a building block version of an aircraft engine model before, and even restored parts with 3D printing technology, but this miniature all-metal model is really the first time I have tried it. Now, I have completed its assembly. For friends who love machinery and aviation, here are my assembly experience and suggestions, I hope it can be a reference for you to buy or assemble.
First Impression: Small but Detailed Mechanical Art
The moment I got the model, I was shocked by its details. Every part of this F35 turbofan engine model accurately restores the structure of the real engine: the turbine blades, combustion chambers and even the air inlet are lifelike, and each part is precisely processed by CNC. The realistic restoration makes me feel like disassembling a real engine in a workshop. The metal material not only brings a visual sense of luxury, but also weighs about 4 pounds. It feels very textured in the hand and is very enjoyable to touch. This assembled turbojet engine model is placed on the table, like a miniature aviation museum exhibit, which not only satisfies the aesthetics of engineering enthusiasts, but also is suitable as a gift for friends or children who are interested in machinery.
Assembly Experience: Challenging but Worth the Effort
The process of assembling this model brought back my memories of dealing with engines when I was young. Some friends in the comment area mentioned that it reminded them of the days when they assembled models when they were young-for me, this model is a continuation of professional memories and a dialogue with the past. To be honest, the difficulty of assembling this model is greater than I expected, especially compared with the building block models that I have assembled before. Here are a few points that need special attention:
1. A lot of engine parts and a complex structure
It is no exaggeration to say that this model may contain the most small screws I have ever assembled. Although they are small, they are an important guarantee for the stability of the model. The precision of each component is very high, but because of this, a little carelessness will lead to the wrong position. For example, if the turbine blades are installed in the wrong direction, they will not be able to dock with the combustion chamber later. Therefore, it is recommended that you must read the instructions carefully, and you can even pre-assemble them first to confirm that there are no problems before screwing them. It is recommended to tighten each screw, but do not use too much force to avoid damaging the parts or stripping the threads. The entire assembly process may take 10-15 hours. It is recommended to complete it in multiple days and enjoy the fun of every step.
2.Small screws and parts, tools are essential
The screws that come with the model are really small. If you operate them by hand, they are easy to slip off. I strongly recommend using magnetic screwdrivers and tweezers. In addition, if you have a headlamp or a magnifying glass, it will also be very helpful for assembling the details.
3. Key Tools for a Smooth Assembly Process
Magnetic screwdrivers and tweezers are your good helpers, especially for friends with reduced finger flexibility. Assembling this product can really exercise the brain and hand flexibility.
- Classification and storage: It is recommended to use a small tray or box to store screws separately by type to avoid confusion.
4. Follow the Instructions Carefully: Patience is Key
The instructions are all illustrated paper instructions. You need to assemble carefully according to each step in the instructions. Before officially starting, read the instructions thoroughly and sort out the assembly logic.
- If you encounter difficulties, you can refer to the video tutorial or join the community of relevant model enthusiasts, where there are many experienced friends who are happy to share tips.
5. Assembling and Adjusting Parts: Focus on Details for a Perfect Build
The installation of some parts requires precise alignment. Here are some tips I have summarized:
- When installing the turbine blades, be careful to align the holes and avoid squeezing them hard.
- If any parts are installed too tightly, use an appropriate amount of lubricant to increase sliding.
- After installation, clean the model with a cotton cloth to keep the appearance exquisite.
The startup sound of this model is low and mechanical. It simplifies the working principle of the real engine, but retains the most core "suction, compression, combustion, and spray" process. It looks like a real engine working in front of you. However, it would be better if the sound module could be improved. I don’t like the design that it loops every 10 seconds.
6. Should You Buy?
Who is it suitable for?
- Aviation enthusiasts: It is a dream kit for turbofan engine enthusiasts.
- Model enthusiasts: The complex assembly process and exquisite finished product are very suitable for people who like challenges and collections.
- Nostalgic people: If you have had a career or hobby related to aviation or mechanics, this model will take you back to those unforgettable years.
- Educational use: It is also an excellent teaching tool to help children or aviation school students understand the principles of turbofan engines.
When the time comes, I plan to take it to the Air Force base to show my old friends the model I assembled. If you have ever dreamed of touching the core of aviation mechanics, or want to regain your passion for mechanics when you were young, this F-35 turbofan engine model will definitely make you feel that it is worth the money.
