Have you received your beloved Toyan v8 engine recently? If not, please see what our old friend Dennis has to say about it? Here are some key points.
1. Unboxing
- Radiator and accessories: Contains radiator with fan, hose, and mounting bracket.
- Electronic components: There are CDI unit, spark plugs, ignition coil wires, and the spark plug wires are already assembled, no need to build them yourself.
- Tools and materials: Equipped with tools and user manuals.
- Hardware accessories: Various hardware, such as gaskets, screws, etc., and protected with foam packaging to prevent displacement during transportation.
- Intake and exhaust:
- Intake: Unique intake manifold with larger holes and a perforated divider in the middle. Consider enlarging the center hole to reduce air restriction; it is also equipped with a new heavy-duty air filter, and there is a device at the bottom to close the carburetor.
- Exhaust: Stainless steel exhaust pipe, not aluminum 3D printed parts, with a flared end similar to the 60s Rat Rod style.
- Other parts:
- There is a belt, which looks like an O-ring glued together with super glue. Its heat resistance and continuous operation on the pulley remain to be seen.
- The distributor is vertically upward, similar to the design of Ford engines. There are bearings at the bottom of the distributor. It uses steel gears instead of bronze gears. It feels almost magnetic. Sparks can be seen when running. There is a place to install the Hall sensor.

2. Engine component details
- Pistons and connecting rods: The pistons have a chrome-plated appearance, and the connecting rods are long. They are a large-stroke and small-bore design. The pistons and connecting rods are numbered to correspond to the engine cylinder block, and a small RC 8-10 scale clutch can be installed.
- Crankshaft: Dennis was impressed by the quality of the crankshaft. The journal is almost perfect. Although no wobble test was done, it is said that some products have a small wobble amplitude, and the cylinder main bearing can suppress wobble.
- Camshaft: It uses a "lumpy" camshaft with obvious profile differences. There are two sets of cam profiles of different sizes. The large cam profile provides long duration, which makes the engine produce a unique idle jitter effect when it is perfectly tuned.
- Cylinder head: The shape is similar to the 429 boss style cylinder head, but the thickness is not enough. All valves look normal, spark plug threads are also OK, valves turn freely, and the surface is powder coated or anodized to help lubrication.
- Valve cover: The valve cover is red and has reinforcing ribs on the bottom.
- Engine block: Typical Toyan block, but there is no step in the center, it is through. The block has a Northstar-like design, the starter is under the intake manifold, and the block is numbered to correspond to the piston installation position.
- Carburetor: Similar to a lawnmower carburetor, it is engraved with the word "Toyan". The carburetor has a limited opening and the fuel demand needs to be tested.
