Hero's engine, also called An aeolipile, aeolipyle, or eolipile, as a is a simple mechanical device that generated kinetic energy from steam. The bladeless radial steam turbine spins when the central water container is heated. It's regarded as the 1st recorded steam engine or reaction steam turbine. The Hero of Alexandria invented it in the 1st century AD.

How did the hero of Alexandria engine work?

the great inventor of Alexandria called it  "wind ball", a sealed caldron of water was placed over a heat source. Steam rose into the pipes and into the hollow sphere when the water boiled. The steam escaped from two bent outlet tubes on the ball, resulting in rotation of the ball.
