After I received the engine, I ordered a 6S battery for the starter. When the battery came, I connected the starter and ignition batteries and tried running the engine by just feeding some fuel into the carburetor throat. Nothing happened… I determined that the factory installed hall sensor was defective, so I replaced it with the sensor that came with the CD ignitor. It was nice to see that the hall sensor could be replaced without disturbing either the distributor or the distributor cap. The engine then started instantly and ran for a few seconds on the residual fuel. I was very impressed; the engine was smooth and the exhaust sound was nice and mellow. I will make a complete installation as time allows before I run it again, but indications are that this will be a very easy to run engine. One disappointment is that the radiator came with very small diameter hose connection pipes while the manual says the pipes need to have at least a 5mm inside diameter. I will have to do something about this. Note: the radiator outlets are threaded with 14mm x 2 threads. I also ordered the optional turbocharger and I have high expectations for it.
